The project to improve urban mobility in the Municipality of Ioannina included the development, supply and installation of an intelligent parking management system and management platform. The project is a pioneering service of the Municipality to the citizens / visitors, which aims at the following:

• The supply of an intelligent management system for the temporary parking with the use of underground sensors for 100 places in the city of Ioannina. The intelligent parking system offers a solution to the problem of short-term parking of citizens and visitors to serve “urban needs”. The system also covers special parking spaces for People with Disabilities.
• The collection of data from the pilot action for the future planning of corresponding, intelligent actions on a larger scale.
• The connection of the intelligent parking management system with the existing traffic management and monitoring platform through multiple communication channels.

The final result of the project is a unified information platform that concerns information about the free parking spaces in the city of Ioannina, and uses as information channels web site, mobile application and the existing electronic signs of the Municipality.

The integration of the new systems with the existing ones has been done through standardized user interfaces. The main goal of the project is to demonstrate and promote the adoption of special measures of sustainable mobility in order to contribute to the development and attractiveness of cities.
