The Municipality of Karditsa has been equipped with a series of smart applications and sensors, which aim to utilize the Open Shopping Centre, to stimulate the economic activity that is developing in the commercial area of the city, to modernize the centre and to continuously upgrade the Municipality by using new technological means that will improve the management and functionality of the urban environment, mobility, but also the daily life of citizens and visitors.

Wireless internet access system (Free WiFi)

As part of the redevelopment of the city’s commercial centre and its transformation into an “Open Commercial Centre” , twelve (12) wireless access points were installed, among other things.

Environmental measurement system

With the development of a network of environmental sensors, the cities gain the ability to measure and evaluate critical variables for the environment in which they are developed. This network allows the monitoring, comparison and analysis of a wide range of pollutants and particles in real time so as to help extract valuable analyses and provide real-time alerts to identify and highlight any emergency problems.

System for remote management of public infrastructure and networks of the intervention area

The implementation of smart city and sustainable mobility systems in the Open Shopping Centre facilitates access for consumers while enhancing their visit experience. The interoperability of the smart city and sustainable mobility systems, as well as the diverse use of the wealth of data generated, is ensured by the installation and use of the smart city platform.

Intelligent Controlled Parking System

Through the system, the number of free on-street parking spaces in the area is made available in real time, while the project involves the development of an integrated parking system to enable real-time multi-channel information to drivers on parking availability.
