The project concerns the “Supply and installation of a parking management system with electronic parking meters and sensors on the road”

The objectives are:

a. The organization and management of parking in the central square of Thermi, with an increase in the rotation of parking in the spaces alongside the street and the use of the underground car park for long-term parking.

b. The removal of parked vehicles from the road network, which will be achieved both as a result of the implementation of controlled parking and through the implemented sidewalk extensions, will provide additional free and safe space for pedestrians, protected from vehicle movements.

c. The removal of parked vehicles from the road network will improve traffic conditions, since illegal parking creates problems for the movement and manoeuvring of vehicles, especially urban buses and other heavy vehicles. It will also improve the aesthetics of the square.

d. Increasing parking rotation in the off-street spaces will increase their usefulness, resulting in improved customer service to the Thermi shopping center.

The integrated implementation of the controlled parking system will utilize:

a. Electronic parking ticket machines (parking meters); and

b. A system with electronic sensors and appropriate software for the management and control of parking spaces.

The electronic machines (parking meters) will be used to issue parking tickets and will be connected to each other and to a central electronic system via a mobile phone network (GSM) or WiFi. The central electronic system will be equipped with appropriate software, which will collect data from the network of machines, ensure compliance with parking time restrictions and the smooth and continuous operation of the system. To issue tickets, the driver of the vehicle will enter the vehicle registration number, the number of the space in which the vehicle is parked and the time spent in the space into the machine.

Electronic sensors will be installed in each controlled parking space and will be used to inform the service carrying out the control of any illegal occupation of parking spaces. With the implementation of the system, patrols will be minimized, inspections will be targeted and more productive, and the detection and confirmation of violations will be simpler.

The two above mentioned systems will fully cooperate with each other on-line, so that the payment data from the electronic parking meters will be taken into account by the sensor system.
